This is a small general shackles grouping — a handful of bow and dee patterns kept alongside the rest of the rigging hardware for buyers who arrive looking simply for a shackle. If you are specifying shackles properly, or you need the full spread of sizes, pin types and Crosby patterns we hold at Darukhana, go to our main Sealinkers shackles category, which carries the complete buyer guide.

What is worth saying here is the sizing point, because it is the one buyers most often get wrong. A shackle is chosen by working load limit for the way it will actually be loaded, never by matching the pin diameter to the hole it happens to fit. The body must also seat fairly in the hook, masterlink or eye it connects to: a shackle pulled across its pin, or wedged so the bow cannot align with the load, is no longer working the way its rating assumes. Our shackle size selection guide walks through the method.

Shackles here are supplied against the scope of IS 5245 for general engineering use and EN 13889 for forged shackles, with Crosby items rated to their own catalogue and marked accordingly. Any shackle we sell can be proof-loaded in our in-house test house and issued with a certificate for your lifting-gear register — routine for loose gear at Indian ports under the Dock Workers regulations, where a competent-person examination trail is expected for every item in the set.

Buying questions

How is a shackle sized correctly?

By working load limit for the way it will actually be loaded, not by finding the pin that fits the hole. Establish the load on that connection point, allow for the sling angle where legs gather in the bow, and pick a shackle rated above it. Then check the body seats fairly in the hook or eye, because a shackle loaded across its pin is not working as rated.

Where do I find your full shackle range?

This is a small general grouping. Our main Sealinkers shackles category carries the complete range — bow and dee patterns, screw pin and bolt-type, our own brand alongside the Crosby range we distribute — together with a fuller buyer guide on shape, pin type and certification. If you cannot find the size you need on either page, send us the requirement and we will confirm stock at Darukhana.

Do these shackles come with a test certificate?

They can. Shackles carry the manufacturer certification for their production lot, and because we operate an in-house test house we can additionally proof-load any shackle on our own bed and issue the test and examination certificate in the prescribed form for your register. Ask for certification at the time of order so the goods and the paperwork leave together.

When should a shackle be scrapped?

Scrap it if the pin does not seat fully by hand, if the body or pin shows wear, nicks, gouges or stretch, if the crown is visibly flattened, or if the size, grade and WLL markings are no longer legible. A bent pin or an opened-out body means the shackle has been overloaded and it must be scrapped, not straightened. Never substitute a bolt for a proper shackle pin.
